My friend Guy Johnston invited me to record with a band for his SAE audio engineering assignment. I don’t usually play with a band except in church, so I called up brother Dave and he made some calls, and I made some calls. A band was assembled for the first of two rehearsals beginning at Oak Avenue, Casino, then the next day at Molesworth St, Lismore. The following day we arrived at SAE Byron Bay. Although it had rained most of the preceding week, Friday April 9th 2021 was perfectly clear and sunny. It was a glorious day. We played a collection of some of our favourite country gospel songs in the sunshine. We also managed to include this tune of mine written and sung during the Bentley Blockade of 2014. This was the last take of our recording session before we went for lunch on the beach. Thanks so much for creating the opportunity Guy!

I heard the man who walked with the people
He spoke for justice without fear of evil
On the capital steps in Montgomery Alabama
Everybody was tired but he rang out like a hammer
How Long? Not long
We can crush the truth to the earth, but it's gonna rise up strong
I heard the man who stood up for Australia
Against corruption and our country's failure
He spoke by the highway on the Pilliga sand
About a sustainable world, not the avarice, the greed and destruction of man
How Long? Oh not long!
We can't live a lie forever, let the people redeem what is wrong
How Long? Oh not long!
We can crush the truth to the earth, but it's gonna rise up strong
Cos I hear the man speaking to the nations
About a kingdom built on sure foundations
"Love God, love your neighbour", he said "I'll soon be back",
He said "Love is the law and the plan of attack!"
How Long? Oh not long!
Crush the truth to the earth? You can try, but it's gonna rise up singing a new song
How long? Oh not long!
There's a new wind a blowin, and his truth is marching on
Cmon, cmon, cmon!
How long...?
Not long.
